cheap, non-girly baby clothes

June 16th, 2010 at 08:28 pm

so now that we know we're having a girl, I started scouring the internet for deals. The problem is I do not like girly, frilly, lacey girls clothes. If my girl gets older and decides she likes those type of clothes then that's cool with me, but while she's too little to know or care, I'd like some awesome baby clothes that aren't so crazy in your face pink. Problem is the only sites that make fun baby clothes that I kinda like are super expensive since I guess it's a novelty. I was just at Target this past weekend and it seems anything on sale or in a reasonable price is insanely girly. Are most stores like this?? What to do?!

Shop at garage sales and thrift stores; most baby clothing is very gently used because they grow out of it so fast. Also, ask friends and family for quirky used clothing (they can buy more if they know they're authorized to buy used)--and whatever you do, don't tell them you're having a girl! We didn't find out the sex, so we got lots of cute boy clothes, girl clothes and gender-neutral stuff from people. The minute she was born, the gifts started taking on a distinctly pink and frilly character! LOL

I think it also helps to know people who have kids a little older than your own! That can lead to some great hand me downs - we got a bunch of stuff for our daughter that still had the tags on it. As far as some insurance of non-frilly girl items, look at some of the more outdoorsy brands, like Patagonia, LL Bean, etc. Expensive, but god quality, and great on sale.
