groceries for a family of 4?

May 16th, 2016 at 02:27 pm

Just wondering what everyone spends on groceries for the week? We have a 5 year old, 1 year old, 1 cat (that we include all of her food, litter, etc.) and then two adults we're paying for. Just noticing recently that we haven't been hitting my $125/week budget for a while now so I'm probably going to up it to at least $150.

Generally we eat out Friday night, Saturday night, and get a takeout meal on Sunday (which aren't included in the above amounts), but other meals are at home. Just thought it'd be interesting to see what everyone else spends.

Well, it's just me along with two cats and a bunch of fish, but I spend about $50 a week.

Just yesterday we spent $160 which is for four people, with one meal planned out this week. That did include some cleaning supplies and canned cat food. And there was some organic produce.

We budget for $200 per week when we don't have a CSA box of veggies coming. That money must also cover other household products besides food. Sometimes we have enough leftover to also buy our wine with the line item, while other times we go over the amount. Not counting cats, household products and wine I'd say we're somewhere between $150 and $175 per week for a family of five.

We spend about $600 a month for a family of 4 with 2 teenagers. But we also raise a lot of our own food, so we'd likely spend more if we didn't. I do try to buy organic or sustainably raised foods. If I didn't, we'd probably spend $400 a week on groceries, but we'd still raise a lot of our own food.

$800/month for family of four. Depends on where you live too. I find that cooking and not eating out our bill used to be $500-600 but then we'd spend $300/month eating out. Now it's less than $50 and we just cook more.
